Speeds are moderate; the sensation of speed comes from the terrain, not from actual high velocity.
What a properly run operator does differently. Vehicles used for dune bashing are set up for it specifically — tyre pressure adjusted for sand, regular maintenance checks, and drivers trained and experienced in reading dune terrain rather than general city driving. Ask directly whether drivers are trained specifically for dune driving if you’re comparing operators; it’s a fair question and a reputable one will answer it plainly.
Who should think twice or choose “soft dune bashing” instead:
- Anyone with a back or neck condition that’s aggravated by sudden movement
- People prone to motion sickness (the direction changes are the main trigger, more than the speed)
